Although fired in a modern computer-controlled kiln, the bricks are formed by methods that are simliar to centuries-old brick making. Like artisans of colonial times, bricks are formed by placing soft mud into sanded wood moulds. The sand not only provides the final brick color but also is used to release the clay from the mould.
